ACCA to host first global conference on leadership in public finance

Eminent speakers to share expertise on meeting challenges of the economic downturn

30 Sep 2009

ACCA is to host its first international conference for finance professionals in the public sector.

The conference, which will take place in London on 23 October, will feature a range of high-calibre speakers who will share their knowledge and expertise on a range of topical issues and draw on case studies to illustrate how the challenges presented by the current economic conditions have been successfully overcome.

The event, which will be essential for those wanting to stay ahead of key policy and technical developments, will host discussions on:

  • The state we're in: a world view of the economic situation, its impact and challenges for the public sector
  • The future of public sector audit: an analysis of new approaches to audit and innovation, techniques for effectively tackling bribery and corruption, and future audit challenges/trends
  • Carbon and green collar issues: an understanding of the emerging regulatory framework for carbon reduction and best practice initiatives, and details of lessons learnt and success stories
  • Unlocking innovation to increase capacity in public services: a panel discussion on how finance managers can innovate during a time of retrenchment. It will draw upon efficiency breakthroughs, new ways of working and new developments - for example, mutual trusts to stimulate local economies. Creative practices such as the 'total place' initiative and efficiency breakthroughs will also be discussed.

Among those speaking at the conference will be: Nenad Pacek, president, Global Success Advisors Ltd; Martin Evans, managing director of audit, Audit Commission, England; Ian Trumper, treasurer, Transparency International UK; and Catherine Staite, director, Office for Public Management.

ACCA will be hosting the event in partnership with the Office for Public Management and Transparency International UK.
