Is paying taxes an option? Says ACCA expert
Chas Roy-Chowdhury, Head of Tax at ACCA (Association of Certified Chartered Accountants), will be visiting Trinidad next month for a one-day seminar on taxation. Roy-Chowdhury, a leading international tax expert, will not only be comparing tax systems in Asian and European countries, but will also be using his presentation to challenge the assumption that we should automatically pay taxes.
“We have all heard the saying that there are only two certainties in life – death and taxes - and we all pay taxes from the moment we begin to earn. But should we not question why we pay taxes, how we pay and how much we pay?” said Chas Roy-Chowdhury.
“The issue of taxation goes beyond simply funding the public sector, but it is also about how attractive a country might be for business and international trade. You only have to look at the threat to London’s status as an international finance centre posed by the proposal to impose a GBP30,000 levy on foreigners, to see how important making the correct tax decisions can be,” he said.
Chas Roy-Chowdhury will be speaking at the ACCA seminar at the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business, Trinidad, on 14 March. For more information, please contact the office of ACCA Caribbean at 622-3434 Ext. 25.
