Lee Soh Hong
freelance consultant, Singapore
Lee Soh Hong completed ACCA's Professional Scheme through self-study and applying the skills and knowledge she learnt through her accounting career.
The high demand for accountants guided her towards the profession. The opportunity to work in any sector or industry was another major driver. Lee Soh Hong chose to study for the ACCA qualification because it is a 'credible professional qualification that is well known internationally.' ACCA was also flexible enough to allow her to study at her own pace while maintaining a work-life balance.
After achieving membership, Lee Soh Hong found there were a broad range of employment opportunities on offer. 'Employers in Singapore recognise ACCA members as trustworthy, confident and competent accountants.'
Lee Soh Hong has had a challenging career which has involved a number of jobs in auditing, accounting and IT support for large multinational organisations such as KPMG and Canon. She has also successfully set up a not-for-profit website, cancerstory.com to provide help and support to cancer patients and their families.
Lee Soh Hong hopes that the accountants of the future will 'live up to their responsibilities ethically, truthfully and fairly.' She also asserts that in the light of the Enron and WorldCom scandals, accountants should be 'discerning enough to point out questionable matters and rectify mistakes immediately.'
