Keith Siu |
Chief Financial Officer, Greater China, McDonalds China Development Company
Keith Siu believes a modern finance professional should possess four main qualities: dedication, a keen business mind, a thirst for learning and problem-solving skills. These are qualities he clearly has in abundance.
'The accountancy profession is a fantastic career. It is the foundation for any business or industry. I have worked for McDonalds for 13 years and have been promoted several times during my career. I started out as assistant accountant for the Hong Kong business and worked my way up to chief financial officer,' says Keith.
While studying for his ACCA qualifications, Keith needed to be self-motivated, disciplined and focused and he learned to manage his time effectively. 'ACCA is a highly regarded professional accountancy body and it's a real challenge to achieve the qualification. It is critical for career development as it provides you with the fundamental knowledge required in any industry and business,' he says.
Through training and with 13 years' commercial experience in a multinational Company, Keith believes his all round business skills have been significantly improved. 'My communication, people and strategic management skills are second to none, and in terms of enhanced professional knowledge, I have ACCA to thank for that.'
He continues, 'It has also given me access to broader influence on company's strategic direction. I am now actively involved in various business processes such as development and marketing.'
