Reputation and influence
- The Head of ACCA Australia and New Zealand attended three consultative meetings between CEOs of national professional accountancy bodies and senior tax officials, chaired by the Commissioner of Taxation, Michael D’Ascenzio. The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) launched a recruitment campaign to attract ACCA members new to Australia to work for the ATO. The campaign was successful resulting in a number of members being employed nationally. The ATO also undertook a survey of members and provided speakers for a number of ACCA events.
- KPMG sponsored the ACCA Sustainability Reporting Awards and conference in April, and hosted the launch of the 2007 Reporting Year Awards in September.
- IBM Global Business Services sponsored a CFO Forum organised and chaired by ACCA with Anne Sherry, CEO of Carnival Corporation. The event was attended by 22 CFOs from 'Top 100' Australian corporations.
- The 2007 Australia and New Zealand Sustainability Reporting Awards and conference was a significant and successful event. Keynote speaker was the Hon Bob Carr, the longest serving former Premier of New South Wales, and publicity was gained on national radio and in newspapers. The event was attended by a high level audience of over 100.
- 'Disclosures on stakeholder engagement' was published in March, and 'Disclosures on climate change' in May; both research publications form part of a trilogy of research papers produced by ACCA working with Net Balance Foundation. The third paper, on human capital management, was published in January 2008.
- The Facts of Australian Corporate Taxation, commissioned by ACCA and written by Professor Sinclair Davidson (RMIT), was published in June.
Member and student achievements
- Peter Batten was appointed a voting member of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (a committee of IFAC) for a three-year term. He was previously a voting member of the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB).
- New Zealand student Andrea Lockie gained a world best result for Paper 2.5 in June, and received national publicity in New Zealand newspapers and television business news.
- Michael Bencsik, HSBC CFO Australia, was transferred to a senior role in HSBC’s London office, strategic planning unit, in October.
