BEIJING
- In July, a social gathering was held on the theme of 'Healthy lifestyle in the summer'. Delegates were given healthcare advice and tips on fitness, sports, food safety.
- A study trip to Xi'an was organised in August, in support of the Hope Project, initiated by the Central Commission of Communist Younger Leagues to help children in poverty stricken areas. A group of 17 people, including ACCA members, students, and Approved Employers spent two days to Xi'an - one of the China’s most famous historical cities. Before the trip, ACCA Beijing appealed for donations of books for a primary school in a county in Xi'an, and as a result, nearly 2,000 books were donated to Qingfeng Primary School.
- In November, ACCA Beijing combined a 'study trip' and 'University Mentor progamme' into a single trip to Dongbei Finance and Accounting University (DUFE) in Dalian, Northeast China. Delegates met the dean of the Accounting School of DUFE to discuss the setting up of an ACCA class; the head of ACCA Beijing and three ACCA members, who were also DUFE graduates, spoke to over 90 accounting major students, to share their career experiences and give advice on career development. In the evening, 12 Dalian members and affiliates attended a dinner party hosted by ACCA, which proved a very good networking opportunity as most members do not meet each other often even though they live in the same city. In order to improve communication further, two ACCA members volunteered to act as coordinators between ACCA Beijing and Dalian. This will hopefully encourage members living in other major cities to strengthen their connections with each other and with ACCA.
- A new year party for Approved Employers and ACCA members was held in December, at which around 110 guests attended. Three ‘Most supportive member awards’ were presented at the event, to Annie Sun Ou, CFO of Motorola Beijing Branch; Wang Jianhui, CFO of the Higher Education Press; and Ao Yanjie, CFO of GSR Venture. Guests also congratulated Yang Xuelian, CFO of Siemens (China), who was featured as 'One to Watch' in an article in ACCA's global magazine, accounting & business. Some light entertainment and lucky draw were organised as part of the event.
GUANGZHOU
- A dinner reception was organised to welcome ACCA CEO Allen Blewitt in January. Over 50 members and affiliates from Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other cities in South China were present.
- A lunch for senior members was held in Shenzhen in March. Lawrence Cheung FCCA, partner of Deloitte Shenzhen Branch, talked about the key changes in China’s tax preferential policies, particularly in those areas which will impact significantly on investments in China. About 10 Shenzhen senior members attended the gathering and expressed great interest in attending similar events in the future.
- After a year of preparation, a book donation campaign set up to help primary school libraries in Heyuan, a deprived area in Guangdong, was implemented in May in collaboration with the Overseas China Education Foundation (OCEF). Stationery and about 1,000 books were donated by ACCA members and students, staff members, tuition providers, organisations and companies and were sent to schools in Heyuan.
- A lunch for senior Hong Kong members who work in South China was organised in September. ACCA's development in South China and services provided by the office were introduced at the lunch.
SHANGHAI
