- In January, extensive media coverage followed the ACCA Achievement Award event for Berhane Habtemariam, the Auditor General of Eritrea. The Minister for National Development presided over the event which was attended by five cabinet ministers. The event highlighted ACCA’s role in developing the profession in Eritrea and elsewhere.
- ACCA’s Africa Financial Services survey report was launched in February, in Ethiopia, by the World Bank Senior Financial specialist, Samuel Maimbo. The event was attended by all key players in the financial sector and underlined ACCA’s role as a key stakeholder in the sector, as well a facilitator in efforts to develop the sector. It attracted extensive media coverage, and led to further discussion on partnership with the World Bank in efforts to develop the financial sector in Africa.
- In an event presided over by the Minister for Economic Planning and National Development for Kenya, Hon Henry Obwocha, ACCA launched its Skills2Share programme, to encourage ACCA members to volunteer training and capacity building services aimed at enhancing financial literacy and contributing to the fight against poverty in ActionAid community projects. The event attracted extensive media coverage.
- Uganda's Deputy Prime Minister spoke at the ACCA East Africa Convention, an event that attracted around 650 members and other accountants from nine countries in Eastern Africa, to discuss 'balancing business success with ethical practice'. The event attracted a record sponsorship of over US $100,000 from high-profile organisations including Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers, MTN and the British Council. It was widely covered by the media in Uganda and Ethiopia and highlighted ACCA's commitment to ethics and professionalism.
- ACCA has been invited by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya, the Capital Markets Authority, and the Nairobi Stock Exchange to partner in the prestigious National Financial Reporting Awards Scheme over the next three years. This is an opportunity for ACCA to demonstrate its commitment to excellence in financial reporting and also to promote the Diploma in International Financial Reporting (DipIFR) as a means of addressing knowledge and skills gaps identified through the scheme.
- ACCA partnered with the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) in the Company of the Year awards (COYA). The award event was attended by 800 people from various corporate organisations.
- In September, ACCA signed a contract with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya to provide a monitoring programme for the largest five accounting firms in Kenya under the ECSAFA umbrella project, relating to audit monitoring.
- In December, ACCA, with the Ethiopian Professional Accountants and Auditors Association, co-hosted a national stakeholders workshop which was addressed by Ato Mussa Mohammed, State Minister in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development in Ethiopia, and attended by representatives of all stakeholders in the country.
- Print and radio advertising campaigns were run in Tanzania and Rwanda, targeting high school and university students.

- Japheth Katto FCCA was appointed a member of the IFAC Board, only the second African on the Board
- Joe Baliddawa FCCA was elected president of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda
- John Muwanga FCCA was appointed Auditor General of Uganda
- Hon Henry Obwoncha FCCA is Minister of National Planning and Economic Development, Kenya
- Hon Mustafa Mkullo FCCA is Deputy Minister of Finance, Tanzania
- Hon Jerry Sumari Solomon FCCA is Deputy Minister for Labour, Tanzania
- Four ACCA members are MPs, two in Uganda and two in Tanzania
- The Auditor Generals of Sudan, Uganda and Eritrea are ACCA members, along with several Accountant Generals.
