Training, employer, member and student support
TRAINING SUPPORT
- An orientation for the local faculty to the new ACCA Qualification was conducted in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. Each two-day event was attended by over 120 faculty members coming from institutes across Pakistan.
STUDENT AND MEMBER SUPPORT
- ACCA Pakistan organised Exam Excel student workshops in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad to keep them abreast of key examination techniques. This was attended by around 250 ACCA students.
- In 2007, three meetings of the ACCA Members Advisory Committee were held. A total of 28 meetings of the various members’ sub-committees were also held.
- A member of the SME committee made a presentation at the Women Chambers of Commerce on accounting and bookkeeping, in June.
- The Budget and Taxation committee organised pre-Budget seminars in April and post-Budget seminars in June. The seminars provided an opportunity for members to express their opinions on various aspects of the budgets. The pre-Budget seminars were also attended by senior officers of the Federal Board of Revenue and received media coverage. The Budget and Taxation committee, in April, submitted budget proposals to the Federal Board of Revenue. These proposals received media coverage and were acknowledged by the Federal Board of Revenue.
- The Community Services and Events committee organised a Ramadan Charity in September. Members contributed to the charity and the money raised was donated to a school for under-privileged children.
- A member of the Professional Development committee conducted a two-day workshop on accounting and bookkeeping for the management of Hinopak, a listed company, in August.
EMPLOYER SUPPORT
- New Approved Employers in 2007:
- The Auditor General of Pakistan. ACCA Pakistan is in active contact with the office of the Auditor General of Pakistan and the office of the Controller General of Accounts on Approved Employer status. Both these public sector organisation have shown active interest in providing opportunities for their staff to develop their careers through ACCA qualifications.
- CB Bank, the largest private sector bank in Pakistan, signed up at the Platinum level. Initially the bank will induct trainees in their internal audit and finance departments based at the regional/head office in Lahore and at a later stage they will be posted in other departments. The bank offers huge employment and training prospects to ACCA trainees owing to its size and spread across the country.
- ACCA Pakistan organised an Approved Employer Ceremony in August to showcase the commitment and dedication of its 18 new Approved Employers in Lahore. Organisations including MCB Bank Ltd, Becton Dickinson Pakistan Pvt Ltd, Nishat Chunian, Himont Pharmaceuticals, Pakistan Credit Rating Agency, Escorts Group of Companies and many more were awarded ACCA Approved Employer status. Sardar Hasnain Bahadur Dareshak, Provincial Finance Minister was chief guest and presented the certificates to the new Approved Employers. Senior ACCA members, existing approved employers of ACCA, media and heads of Learning Partners were also present at the ceremony. Around 12 journalists attended and several TV Channels, such as AYR one world, Indus TV and Want TV, covered the event. A similar event was held in Karachi in July.
