Student and member support
- Affiliate information sessions were introduced to provide details on the membership application process and to update affiliates on the introduction of the new PER. The sessions highlighted the attraction of membership as a means of increasing employability.
- CPD information sessions were held for members entering Phase Three of the scheme. The sessions encouraged members to think about professional development in a broader sense so that, regardless of their role, they could ensure they had ample opportunities to meet requirements and enhance their performance at the workplace.
- In celebration of the launch of the new ACCA Qualification, ACCA Singapore launched the ACCA Nurture Scholarships in April. The objective of the scholarship is to nurture future accounting professionals and contribute to the talent shortage in Singapore. The full scholarships, awarded for the first time in Singapore, were also offered in line with ACCA’s philosophy of providing opportunity. The scheme attracted applications from local polytechnics and universities as well as applicants from Malaysia, Vietnam and China - and even one from Ghana. After a stringent selection process, three candidates were finally chosen on the basis of their strong academic performance and co-curricular involvement:
- Ching Lu Pin - a first Class Honours graduate of the University of Birmingham, majoring in accounting and finance. She is currently with Ernst & Young Singapore, and is going through her first audit rounds with clients.
- Hans Christian Gunawan - a first Class Honours graduate majoring in engineering at the Nanyang Technological University.
- Ng Wee Hock - a top student in his year at the Nanyang Polytechnic for two consecutive years.
- This year ACCA also held the inaugural ACCA Career Evening with mid-tier audit firms comprising RSM Chio Lim, BDO Raffles, LTC, Foo Kon Tan Grant Thornton, Baker Tilly TFWLCL, and Ng, Lee & Associates - DFK International. The event saw an excellent turnout of over 400 members, affiliates and students. Top partners spoke about trends and opportunities in mid-tier firms, and the event also allowed ACCA to further establish rapport with these firms.
- This year, the Financial Services Network (FSN) Advisory Committee was formalised, bringing together eight senior members working within the financial services sector in Singapore. This committee has been set up to advise on the direction the FSN should take. It will also give guidance and inspiration to ACCA affiliates and students looking to start their careers in the financial services sector.
