Reputation and influence
- A major activity in 2007 was to increase ACCA's profile in Sri Lanka. This was achieved by a print and electronic media campaign during the latter half of the year; participation in career guidance fairs and exhibitions; the Schools and University Sponsorship programme; and developing tailor-made presentations for various target audiences. Early results are encouraging but effort needs to be sustained in 2008 in order to reap the full benefits of the investment made in 2007.
- All four IFAC member bodies in Sri Lanka jointly hosted the visit of the IFAC President, Fermin De Valle, and the IFAC CEO, Ian Ball.
- ACCA Sri Lanka held its first joint workshop with the CIM, Sri Lanka Region, to promote DipFM and to enhance the financial literacy of the CIM membership.
- ACCA worked with the Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) to encourage growth in the business processing outsourcing (BPO) industry. The main collaboration was the ICTA Career Guidance Fair, where ACCA addressed career guidance counsellors from the Ministry of Education to inform them about the ACCA Qualification.
- The Technical committee published a four-part series on 'Managing Personal Finances' in two local English weekly papers.
- ACCA Sri Lanka was a founder member of the Forum of Chartered Institutes, which comprises mainly UK professional bodies and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL). ACCA also became a member of the Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka.
- ACCA was invited to the Employers’ Forum, held by the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura, to comment on the competencies expected from graduates of the Faculty.
- ACCA Sri Lanka was invited to the ICASL Round Table Discussions to comment on introduction of new standards.

- The University and School Sponsorships programme was intensified and restructured in order to ensure that its objectives were realised. Under the programme, ACCA Sri Lanka sponsored activities in 15 leading schools, and in the Department of Accounting at the University of Sri Jayawardenapura, with over 10,000 students. The programme has helped establish links with these institutions which will be strengthened in 2008. ACCA also awarded a Gold Medal to the Most Outstanding Student in the Department of Accounting.
- The DipFM qualification was promoted to the Bar Association of Sri Lanka and details of the qualification were tabled at the Legal Council Meeting. This was followed up with an advertisement in the Bar Association Newsletter, reaching 8,500 attorneys at law, and an address to the graduates of the Sri Lanka Law College. The Computer Society of Sri Lanka has also approached ACCA with regard to DipFM, and ACCA is working with Mercury, the only DipFM tuition provider, to meet their requirements.
- ACCA and Sri Lanka Telecom agreed to jointly sponsor the second HighQ Quiz Programme, with an improved programme format, which will start in 2008.
- ACCA Sri Lanka has worked closely with British Council, which has an excellent reputation in the country, to promote ACCA. The British Council organised a successful session at which ACCA trained their student counsellors about the benefits of ACCA, and it also stocks ACCA promotional materials to hand out to prospective students. ACCA also participated in all British Council regional career guidance exhibitions (in Kandy, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Galle and Matara) and worked closely with the Council to ensure that mutual objectives were met.
