Reputation and influence
- Rhys Johnson, head of education and development, ASEAN and Australasia, and Penelope Phoon, head of ACCA Singapore both spoke at the ASEAN Education Forum, organised by ASLI (Malaysia) in Hanoi. This event was a good opportunity for ACCA to network with other institutions in the region, and raised ACCA’s reputation with the Ministry of Education and Training.
- For the first time, ACCA has received official recognition from employers for the CAT qualification. During a TV broadcast shown in February (aired three times), the general director of VACO-Deloitte (Ha Thu Thanh) confirmed the value of the CAT programme.
- ACCA has reached an agreement with the biggest book distributor in Vietnam - FAHASA. Today ACCA books are on the bookshelves, more accessible to ACCA students.
- Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan chaired a one day conference on Education and Training for Market Demand in Hanoi on 27 December 2007. ACCA was the only overseas organisation participating, giving a speech and hosting an exhibition stand for three tuition providers.
- Two ACCA members represented ACCA at the debate on taxation regulations held by the National Assembly in July 2007 - Ninh Van Hien, tax partner of KPMG, and Do Thu Ha, tax senior manager of PwC.
During the year, ACCA received coverage in major national media, including the following quotes:
- 'ACCA provides a solution for the shortage of high quality finance professional for the country at this stage of development'; Bui Van Mai, TV show, end of December 2007.
- 'The State Audit Office of Vietnam (SAV) recognises the importance of high quality auditors to build up its team, so in 2007 SAV has passed the decision to send 30 staff members to study ACCA'; Dr Vuong Dinh Hue, state auditor general, Auditing Review, October 2007.
Members’ achievements:
- Nguyen Vinh Ha became a partner of Grant Thornton Vietnam in January 2007
- Nguyen Phi Lan became a partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers Vietnam in August 2007
- Lang Trinh Mai Huong was selected as a Professional Accountants in Business Committee member in November 2007 (a Committee of the International Federation of Accountants)
- At the end of December 2007, To Vi Hung was promoted to financial controller of BP Vietnam, following four-years' induction training in Hong Kong SAR, the UK and USA (Hung joined BP as part of the company's third graduate intake).
