- Over 160 members participated in the ACCA Business Leadership and IFRS conference held in Livingstone in May. Presentations were given by well-known business leadership trainers and motivational speakers, such as Nigel Turner, managing director of MasT Botswana Ltd, and Professor Lovemore Mbigi of South Africa; several local CEOs and senior members also presented key note papers.
- ACCA, in partnership with the Zambia Chamber of Small and Medium Business Association (ZCSMBA) and the Zambia Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ZACCI), organised an SME conference in Lusaka in August, attended by over 150 owner managers and directors of Zambia SMEs. The workshop was sponsored by Barclays Bank Plc, Standard Chartered Bank plc and Stanbic Bank plc. The Hon Felix Mutati FCCA, MP Minister of Commerce, Trade & Industry, represented by his Director for Industry, officially opened the workshop. Professor Robin Jarvis, ACCA head of small business, and James Meyrick, ACCA advisor on small business, together with Hastings Mtine FCCA, senior partner, KPMG, and Joel Mzumara FCCA, director of Finance Commercial Leasing, delivered training on cash flow management, credit management, succession planning, production of bankable business plans, and taxation. ACCA will continue to work in close collaboration with ZCSMBA and other stakeholders to equip owner managers and directors of SMEs with essential financial management skills.
- Two key stakeholders forums were held in November: an evening forum for public and private sector stakeholders, and a breakfast meeting for senior members. Dr Caleb Fundanga, governor of the Bank of Zambia, was guest of honour and keynote speaker at the evening forum. Others presenting at both the evening forum and breakfast meeting included Sundeep Takwani, ACCA head of professional standards and regulation; Chintu Mulendema FCCA, president of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants; Mumba Kapumpa, president of the Institute of Directors; Richard Mazombwe FCCA, country leader, PricewaterhouseCoopers; Festus Chipungu, chief community education officer, Anti-Corruption Commission; Mwamaka Mulaga, deputy auditor general in the Office of the Auditor General; and Timothy Mushibwe FCCA, partner, Deloitte & Touche. More than 120 guests attended both events. Senior government officials such as Dr Buleti Nsemukila, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Science & Technology, and Davidson Chilipamushi, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce, Trade & Industry, and also MDs, lawyers, senior partners, HR directors and ACCA members were also present.
- Over 40 CEOs participated in the Sustainability Reporting stakeholder forum held in Lusaka. The forum was graced by the presence of the Hon Felix Mutati, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and the then Mayor of the City of Lusaka. Andrew Harding, ACCA managing director, attended the event. The forum was held in order to raise awareness among corporate executives about corporate social responsibility and sustainability reporting. ACCA Zambia plans to launch sustainability reporting awards in Zambia.
