Social events
- About 120 students participated in a three-day camping expedition at Livingstone Safari Lodge. Students participated in social activities which included game viewing, a boat cruise, and visits to the Victoria Falls and the national Museum. Students made a historic visit to Chief Mukuni’s Village, the Senior Chief in the area, who is well respected in Zambia. The purpose of the visit was to pay a courtesy call on the Senior Chief and to present a donation of cement to the school which is currently being extended to accommodate more pupils in the area. Despite his busy schedule, Chief Mukuni invited ACCA students to join him in the royal palace to discuss professional matters. This indeed was a unique experience and Chief Mukuni spoke to students about economic development in Zambia and the tourism industry. He encouraged ACCA students to consider taking up employment in the tourism industry which is experiencing a boom. The nights were characterised by dancing, singing and prayers. On the first and second night, two senior members, Wesley Beene, partner at Grant Thornton, and Gibson Kapili an entrepreneur, spoke to students about the importance of practical experience, ethics and entrepreneurship. After the Livingstone camping expedition, students also presented a donation to Lusungu orphanage school in Chingola where they donated mealie meal and cement. Lusungu orphanage school caters for over 200 underprivileged children and orphans. The cement will be used to construct a school, as currently students meet in a community hall.
