Financial reporting of pensions costs by employers
The UK Financial Reporting Standard on accounting for retirement benefits (FRS17) can be accessed from the ASB website.The text of the corresponding international standard (IAS 19) can be obtained as part of an online service called UK and International GAAPplus, to which ACCA members are entitled to a seven day free trial.
Accounting by pension schemes
The Accounting Standards Board has authorised the Pensions Research Accountants Group (PRAG) to issue the Statement of Recommended Accounting Practice (SORP) on accounting by pension schemes. The SORP is available for £17.50 (post free) from Croner CCH at 145 London Road, Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey KT2 6SR (tel 0870 777 2906).
Audit of pension scheme accounts
The APB's Practice Note on the audit of occupational pension schemes, PN 15, is available from the APB website. It can also be found in the ACCA Auditing Handbook. NB PN 15 is being revised to take account of changes in regulatory guidance issued by OPRA in 2003.
