How do I apply for Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) status?

ACCA has retained the CAT Qualification as part of the Foundations in Accountancy suite of awards. In order to obtain the CAT Qualification, students will need to complete the following:

  • Papers FA1, MA1, FA2, MA2, FAB, FFA and FMA
  • two of the three specialist papers
  • the Foundations in Practical Experience requirement (FPER)
  • Foundations in Professionalism.

Students completing the CAT Qualification can claim exemption from exams FA1, MA1, FA2 and MA2 based on practical experience.

On completion of the CAT Qualification, students may then progress onto the ACCA Qualification if they wish to do so (from Paper F4 onwards).

How do I re-register?

If your registration has lapsed for any reason and you want to take the exams, you will need to re-register. A re-registration form can be obtained from your local ACCA office or from ACCA Connect. You can re-register at any time of the year. However, please ensure you re-register at least 10 days before the exam entry closing date for the exam session you wish to sit ie 10 working dates before the exam entry closing dates of 8 March (early exam entry), 8 April (standard exam entry) or 8 May (late exam entry) for June exams and 8 September (early exam entry), 8 October (standard exam entry) and 8 November (late exam entry) for December exams. You will need to pay a re-registration fee, which will be the same as the initial registration fee and any fees that were outstanding when you left the register.

How long will it take for my registration application to be processed?

We aim to process all applications within four weeks of the date of receipt. You will then be sent a letter or email confirming your application has been processed.

Can I submit my registration form and send payment at a later date?

Unfortunately, an application cannot be processed without the relevant fee. Please ensure that a payment is submitted as part of your application.

Can I study for Foundations in Accountancy and the ACCA Qualification simultaneously?

Students are not permitted to study for both qualifications at the same time.

However, Foundations in Accountancy can be used as a stepping stone to the ACCA Qualification. Students can complete the Diploma in Accounting and Business as part of Foundations in Accountancy and then transfer to the ACCA Qualification, commencing their studies from Paper F4 onwards.

OR

You can continue to study for the Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) Qualification. On completion of the CAT Qualification, students may then progress onto the ACCA Qualification if they wish to do so, again from Paper F4 onwards.
